Blogging,  INCOME OPPORTUNITIES

How to Monetize your Steemit Blog for a Lifetime

Though I’ve heard so many success stories about gaining huge amounts through blogging, never in my wildest dreams that I thought about building my own website.

I started blogging on Steemit last October 2017. Steemit is a free blogging platform based on the blockchain, but the challenge lies in monetizing your articles for the next seven days after posting.

What will happen to those previously-posted blogs then?

They will be locked on the blockchain. Forever. And there’s no way you can monetize from it again.

Making an article and earn a dollar or two after seven days was enough for me. But when @steempress-io, a Steem initiative, showed up and helped Steemians integrate their Steemit blog to a WordPress blog, I realized that it would be a great chance to earn for a lifetime while hitting not just two or three, but multiple birds at the same time.

Steempress simply allows you to cross-post an article to your Steemit account and to your WordPress blog without hurting your SEO nor provoking cheetah for having a duplicate article present elsewhere.

Now, let me get back to those birds. What “birds” shall we be hitting then?

1. Short-term Earnings

1.1 Earning on Steemit.

You will still earn from the traditional way of getting paid over accumulating payouts within the first seven days of your blog post on Steemit.

1.2 Get a chance to be upvoted by Steempress.

Steempress-io received a 1,000,000 SP delegation from Ned, the creator of Steemit. The Steempress team uses such power to curate high-quality contents that are integrated with WordPress blogs through the Steempress plugin.

I normally receive 3.5% upvote from Steempress. But if you’re lucky enough, you could get an upvote as high as 10-30%.

2. Long-term Earnings

Now, here’s where the infinity earnings come in with the help of your personal website. There are so many ways on how to monetize your WordPress blog for long-term but I would just focus on the common ones.

2.1 Displaying Ads

You’ve probably heard about Google Adsense. It allows you to display ads on your site and earn through CPC (Cost per Click) and CPM (Cost per Mille).

Still, you will have to get an approval from the Google Adsense team before you can start showing ads to your site. If you have an existing personal website already, you can apply for Google Adsense’s approval HERE.

It is important to note that applying for Adsense’s approval isn’t that easy. Their team will manually check your website whether your contents and overall website appearance adhere to their standards. Nevetherless, you have unlimited chance to correct and resubmit your website for their checking.

2.2 Affiliate marketing.

Aside from showing ads provided by Google Adsense to your site, you can also earn through commissions while promoting products or services. You will get a certain percentage or a fixed amount for generating traffic to their external website or for closing deals from their referrals.

Most bloggers usually earn more from affiliate marketing than just showing ads to their website.

2.3 Sponsored blog posts.

If you are focusing on a certain niche for your WordPress blog, you may be able to earn through writing personal reviews on a certain product or service and earn from it. You can either contact or get contacted by a certain brand to have a sponsored blog post that will somehow promote the products or services they offer.

There are still many ways to earn from your personal website such as direct selling products or services, selling ad space, and more! You can even make your website as your “resume” for different writing gigs. You can find out more about how you can monetize your website HERE.

I’m interested, where should I start?

Focus on your niche.

You have to define your subject focus first. This will help you attract more readers within your writing expertise. More readers could mean more traffic and more chance to earn MORE!

In my case, I have posted several finance posts already and I have been reposting my past articles to my personal website. Yes, you can just repost your old Steemit blogs to your website without getting penalized.

Create a good domain name.

Domain name is your very own website brand so make sure to think about it multiple times before creating your WordPress blog. Keep it simple and easy to remember. You don’t want your readers to go find on the search bar with ThisIsMyBlogAndIWouldNameItTheWayIWant.com instead of MyBlog.com right?

There are free hosting sites in which you can create a domain name. In my starting phase with WordPress, I used Webhost. I was eyeing for a domain name “teenvestor.com” but Webhost gave me “teenvestor.000webhost.com” instead.

It is already expected after launching your site without any cost.

Find a good web hosting service provider.

A web host provides all the necessary services to launch your website or webpage in order for it to be viewed on the internet. If you have no domain name yet, hosting companies will help you purchase one.

There are hosting sites out there in which you can create a website for FREE, but you can hardly monetize from those since you are still attached with their own “site domain”. Furthermore, free hosting services will set website uptime and disk space limits so that you will be forced to purchase their services.

Also, take note that Google Adsense only approves websites having their own domain.

For this reason, I decided to create my own website after searching for a competitive web hosting service provider. I then found Bluehost which also offers free domain name. Bluehost is already integrated with WordPress so you don’t have to build your WordPress blog from scratch.

What I love the most about Bluehost is their fast 24/7 customer support. I never had any difficulties in setting up the appearance and technicalities of my website since Bluehost helped me all the way through it.

Install a Steempress Plugin.

Now that you are done setting up your own website, you are now ready to integrate Steempress to your Steemit blog.

1.png
To start, you must first go to your WordPress dashboard.
2.png
On the left side of your dashboard, click “plugin” dropdown and click add new.
3.png
You will then be directed to the search tab of the WordPress plugin. Just type “Steempress” and install and activate the boxed one. To link your WordPress blog to your Steemit account, go to Plugin –> Installed –> Steempress –> Steempress settings and provide the necessary information (Steemit account ID and private posting key).

You have the option to delay the posting to your Steemit blog in terms of minutes. I usually delay my postings to Steemit for at least 30 minutes to ensure that the article from my website will be ranked higher on search engines like Google since I want to drive traffic to my own website and monetize from it.

On the other hand, Steemit has been very helpful not only in providing short-term income opportunities but also in adding traffic to my website. Now, I don’t have to worry about having my effortful posts going to waste since I already have the opportunity to earn from them in the long-run.

Setting up your own website is a lifetime investment in return for a lifetime income opportunity. I must admit that my efforts doubled after purchasing my very own website but I know it will all pay-off in the future.

I started my personal website in no more than a month. Curious about how it went out? Then kindly visit pinayteenvestor.com.
