The Top 8 Guilty Pleasures I Usually Do When I’m Not Hustling

We all have certain things or situations we enjoy having or doing, even if we find their consequences embarrassing or even shameful to admit. It’s like grabbing yourself another slice of cake when you’re on a diet or creeping somebody else’s life through their social media accounts.

Like you, I have my own set of guilty pleasures as well. These guilty pleasures help me recharge and refresh my mind out of all the hustle and bustle I do day in, day out. Let me start with one of my most favorite guilty pleasures — memes.

1. Memes

I think I’ve shared it many times already how a sucker I am for memes. I can go hours and hours scrolling my FB newsfeed just to have some dose of memes. In fact, there was a point when I already considered it an addiction.

My FB app analytics told me I’m averaging 4-5 hours a day of using the FB app before. I know how it is becoming normal to most people nowadays but for me, that was already alarming. There were times when I get too frustrated when I couldn’t find any meme that satisfies my dopamine needs. Or maybe I was just a sad girl before that the only thing that kept me happy was memes.

Thankfully, I was able to get past my meme addiction. I uninstalled my FB app and enabled two-factor authentication on my main FB account to make it harder for me to access my account. I also created two other FB accounts; one is for solely communicating and getting updates from my close friends and family. The other is a dummy account where I only follow pages and influencers that could contribute to my growth.

2. Snoozing alarms

I know I’m not the only one but yep, I’m the kind of person who sets the alarm and snoozes it more than five times before I finally get up from my bed. There are even times when my alarm fails to kick my butt until I fall back to sleep.

3. Lurking over Reddit

If you want to find a community where you can genuinely engage with people, forums like Reddit are one of the best places to stay as you can just set yourself as anonymous if you like. Although most of the subreddits I lurk on are about investing, the law of attraction, stoicism, and mindfulness, there are non-growth-related subreddits I enjoy visiting once in a while where I could release the beast in me :’> What are those? Just take a wild guess.

4. Singing

I’m not the best singer, but I do love singing. No family occasion would go by without me holding a microphone. My voice is kind of low, but it greatly fits the songs of The Carpenters. I’m also a fan of pop rocks and loud songs. Some of my favorite songs to sing are Fame, Domino, Just Another Woman In Love, Zombie, Only Yesterday, Careless Whisper, and Like A Virgin. I also love Katy Perry songs. The One That Got Away, California Girls, Last Friday Night, Teenage Dream, and Thinking of You are a few of my favorites.

5. Daydreaming

I thought it was just because I’m an overthinker, but over time, I realized that most of the things that happened to me, whether good or bad, came from daydreaming. I have these wild imaginations that play while I’m taking a bath, eating, or before going to sleep.

6. Staying in the bathroom for too long

As I’ve mentioned previously, this is one of the places where I daydream. This is the time where my best ideas pop up. I take a bath for a minimum of 30 minutes. And that could go for even an hour! Also, I don’t keep an everyday to-do list, so when I take a bath, I plan everything I have to do for the day.

7. Watsons

I know most girls can relate. If you do, raise your Watsons loyalty card! Although I am not super obsessed with skincare and beauty essentials, I consider going to Watsons as one of my guilty pleasures. I usually go there with toothpaste, lotion, and conditioner in mind, but I always end up getting myself other beauty products. I’m putting the blame on Watsons’ sales ladies that are so good in terms of upselling. They have the answer for every skin problem and all beauty concerns. That’s why when I’m on a tight budget, I try my best not to talk with Watsons’ sales ladies.

8. Playing games

Last on my list is playing games on the computer. I don’t have any game installed on my phone, so when I want to take a break from my tasks, I just head on to my pc. Thankfully, there’s this website, Plays.org, that lets me play nostalgic games without installing any app. I can just play directly on their website. I love how I could play the games for free with no annoying ads. Best of all, their games are kid-friendly. In fact, I play games there together with my nephew. Two of our favorites are Super Tetris and Neon Invaders.

Final Thoughts

Before, I used to beat myself up when I indulge in my guilty pleasures. It’s so easy to do that, especially if you’re used to seeking continuous growth. But over time, I realized that these guilty pleasures let me take some well-deserved break to maintain my mental health. And as long as I don’t overdo them, I’m all good. How about you? What are your guilty pleasures?

Sheila is a civil engineer by profession but has switched careers to become a copywriter. She loves making sales through stories that are relatable to the average person. She's also a sucker for memes and thinks she’s the funniest person in the world (even though she knows that’s not true). Her favorite drink is Kopiko Brown coffee, but she'll also take tea or beer if it's offered.

Hi, Sheila! I also have a lot of pleasures that I engage in but I don’t feel guilty about it…. ha…ha. .. ha. I need to slack off once in a while in order to be productive. This habit works for me 🙂

“Guilty pleasures” are our way to manage and handle stress. Nowadays, as we learn more and more about taking care of our mental health, these guilty pleasures make a lot of difference.

Yay! True to that. We all deserve our guilty pleasures as a reward and well deserved break to maintain our sanity. Hehe

Hmmm. Thing is, I don’t feel guilty about my pleasures. HAHAHA. But, yes, what I would consider my guilty pleasures would be — anime, listening to the 50s music, watching time-traveling movies and series, soft socks/knee socks hoarding, dubbing and dancing on TikTok. 😀 Thank you for sharing a list of your guilty pleasures, Sheila. As long as they don’t hamper your growth, I think it’s fine to indulge on these things. 🙂

I have my own guilty pleasures as well and there’s nothing wrong with doing them from time to time. We should just be mindful not to do it too much or it will have the same effect as overworking…
