My BDO Mobile Banking Review: Do I Recommend It?

This Personal BDO Mobile Banking Review will tell you my very own experience with BDO online / mobile banking. I also included a step-by-step guide for existing BDO account holders who wish to enroll in BDO mobile / online banking.

I’ve been using BDO mobile banking since my student years. Well, I could say the BDO mobile banking app is easy to use. It has a simple interface that is intuitive enough for first-time users.

However, I have several issues with BDO, particularly its mobile banking app. I usually have issues signing in especially during the daytime, probably because of the increased number of users. This has been going for years now.

Apart from that, their customer service sucks. Whenever you encounter issues on your account, or even when you just want to ask something regarding their services, you have to wait for ages to receive an email response. Otherwise, you’ll be forced to take leave from your work and patiently wait on their physical branch until your inquiries are catered.

Well, that’s the truth and I believe my fellow BDO mobile banking users can attest to this. But I hope in time, these issues will be addressed as more and more Filipinos are introduced into mobile or online banking.

Yet beyond those negative concerns, I still commend the BDO mobile banking for how easy it is to transact using their mobile app or online website.

I personally use it for the following:

  • Transfer money to other BDO accounts instantly and at no cost.
  • Buy mobile load
  • Pay utility bills
  • Fund my online investments
  • Track every transaction I made (deposits, transfers, and withdrawals)
  • See how much interest my savings have gained

My BDO Mobile Banking Review: Do I Recommend It?

So do I recommend the BDO mobile banking?

YES! I love the simplicity of BDO’s mobile banking app. As I said earlier, it is so easy to do financial transactions within the app.

But then again, I have two major concerns. One is the technical issues during peak hours. The other is their poor online customer support.

If these downsides do not worry you, then go ahead and enroll in BDO’s online services. It really gives convenience, tbh. Anyway, you can always log back in during quiet hours or go to the nearest BDO branch should you have a few concerns about your account.

Still, I suggest not to rely on BDO mobile banking alone. Try to open bank accounts from other reputable PH banks and enroll in their mobile banking. This allows you to have more options especially during mobile app downtimes of one bank.

Moving forward, I’ll be tackling the technicalities of BDO mobile banking. Thus, I assume you have a BDO account already. If not, just go to the nearest BDO branch and bring the following:

BDO requirements in opening an account:

  • Two valid government IDs
  • A utility bill that shows your home address
  • Initial deposit for maintaining balance (P 2,000 for BDO personal savings account)

You can go directly to BDO branches nearby to open an account, but I highly suggest filling out their online forms first. Believe me, it will save you time, a hell lot of it! Unless you are willing to wait for long hours in BDO’s queue.

How can I enroll in BDO Mobile Banking?

Unfortunately, the downside of BDO mobile banking enrolment is having to go physically to their BDO ATMs to have it activated successfully. But before that, you have to enroll online at BDO’s website first.

Here are the detailed steps:

  1. Go to https://online.bdo.com.ph and click Enroll Now.
  2. Fill-out the online Electronic Banking enrollment form. Make sure to take note of your username and password.
  3. Make sure to provide your active email address and mobile number
  4.  Put a check mark on the Online Banking, Mobile Banking, and Phone Banking boxes.
  5. You’ll be given a 6-digit  ATM Activation Code on the acknowledgment receipt. You’ll also receive the code through SMS. Make sure to take note of it before going to the nearest BDO ATM.
  6. Go to any BDO ATM, select Other Services > Activate Electronic Banking, and enter your ATM Activation Code.

How long will it take to activate BDO online banking?

After activating your account in BDO’s ATM, it usually takes 24 hours for account activation. After that, you can already access your BDO account online through their website or mobile app using the username and password you provided during the online application process.

Is BDO mobile banking safe?

This is probably the biggest concern when doing financial transactions online. Fortunately for BDO online and mobile banking, their website and mobile app are encrypted with 128-bit encryption, one of the most secure encryption methods to prevent unauthorized access to your account.

Know that every time you login and do any financial transaction through BDO’s website, you’ll be asked with a 6-digit OTP (One Time Password). It will be sent to your mobile number so make sure to update your mobile details in case you’ve lost your phone or changed your mobile number.

For the BDO mobile banking app, however, doing transactions is much easier. You don’t have to input an OTP all the time as long as your device is recognized by your BDO account.

How can I secure my BDO account?

I know you’ve heard of online hacking incidents lately. Unfortunately, the increased number of people going online just means a bigger chance for fraudsters to bait especially those who fail to take online safety measures.

Here are some of the hacking incidents that happened lately. These are from concerned users who warned others to be vigilant from hacking and phishing.

BDO Online Phishing Incidents

Just a Reminder whoever engages in online banking!! Beware with “SPOOFERS”!!!!! I got 15 emails in 48 hours from Criminals pretending to be BDO.

Claiming my BDO account was Locked.

They will ask you to enter username and password or “RESET” in order to UNLOCK,

Afterwhich they steal your personal details and try to empty your account.
No need to open such emails because if you place “Cursor” over the “Sender” it shows email address of scammers!! As you can view in my pics below.

Internet hacking has become one of the Top Criminal Activities.

    Nice article.

iOS app store has several BDO mobile apps, including:

    BDO Digital Banking
    BDO Online

Do you know what the difference is between those two apps?

BDO’s own web site does not say, BDO web site talks about “BDO Mobile App`, but there is no app by that name. It would be better if they would use the correct name of the app. Please let us know if you know the difference between those two BDO apps that I listed.

Hi Marcio, BDO Digital Banking is an older version (I still use this one) while BDO Online is a new version with more features and access easy access to other accounts like credit cards and time deposits. But same as you, I don’t get it why BDO launched another app instead of updating the previous one lol.
